This was once an amazing caring vibrant school but unfortunately over the last few years poor leadership is slowly leaving it’s mark. I have been a parent here for over 10 years with my 3 children and the school has gone from being a cohesive calm thriving environment to a feeling of chaos and disjointedness. The kids, although happy seem to have a restless energy and it’s like many of the teachers have just given up and are just going through the motions until home time. The introduction of the Cathy Walker program was very good for my children to a certain level however it is not for every child and a better transition to mainstream is needed in the senior levels. The open learning double classrooms are not conducive to a calm learning environment for today’s already overstimulated children. Kids are divided into 4 ‘houses’ however I’m not sure why as they do not really promote a sense of belonging or house pride anymore. They no longer award house-points to encourage positive behaviour and the twilight sports in 2015 was out of control with the principal ignoring the chaos talking in the corner to a parent most of the evening- most families left before it was even over-this used to be a great community event. I stopped attending assemblies at the start of this year as they were so much more disorganized and noisy than they used to be. Sometimes the Principal would have his back to the kids and parents talking to someone until another teacher would step in to quiet the kids down to start....then he would realize and step up. Very strange. End of term assemblies are a joke with literally dozens of parents standing outside the hall not even able to hear what is happening because they can’t fit in. These should be outside to promote the sense of community that used to be here. There seems to be a lot of new young teachers particularly in the younger years which is lovely however there needs to be a balance with experience. The new ones are very enthusiastic and bubbly and the older ones are very professional and all are committed wonderful individuals but as a parent who can compare how it was before the new principal took over a few years ago to what it is now.... it feels like the staff are just putting on a brave front trying to hold things together as it’s falling apart. Perhaps school council have not been a part of the school long enough to notice the negative changes. There used to be a real sense of pride among the students that they went to “the best school in the area” because the Principal and Vice Principal used to tell them that. As an outsider or newcomer you would probably not notice anything negative as it is obvious to me the staff are doing their best. It is still a ‘very good’ school. I however remember when is was a ‘fantastic’ school. The principal is a very nice man but was not born to motivate a team unfortunately and it seems the school is paying a price for this. Such a shame.
